This training introduces Positive Psychology (PP) as a scientific approach to well-being, resilience, and personal growth. Participants will explore PP’s foundations, key interventions, and the evolution towards PP 2.0, which integrates challenges, adversity, and balance into traditional PP concepts.

  • Explore Martin Seligman’s PERMA model (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment).

  • Critiques & Challenges: Is PP too focused on happiness?

 Activities:

  •  Self-Reflection: Assess your well-being using the PERMA Profiler.

  • Journaling Prompt: “What does happiness mean to me?”

  • Read Martin Seligman’s Authentic Happiness (selected chapters).
  • Watch a TED talk on the science of happiness.

Week 2: The Science of Well-Being & Flourishing

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the difference between hedonic vs. eudaimonic well-being.
  • Explore key research findings on happiness and fulfilment.
  • Learn about neuroplasticity & positive interventions.

Core Content:

  • Hedonic (pleasure) vs. Eudaimonia (meaning & purpose).
  • Research from Sonja Lyubomirsky & Barbara Fredrickson on well-being.
  • The Broaden-and-Build Theory: How positive emotions expand resilience.

 Activities:

  •  Mindfulness Exercise: Practicing gratitude & savouring.
  • Group Discussion: What does true flourishing mean?
  • Practical Exercise: Writing a “Gratitude Letter” and reflecting on its impact.

Additional Work:

  • Try a 7-day gratitude challenge.
  • Read research on the neuroscience of happiness.

Week 3: Strengths-Based Approaches in Positive Psychology

  • Discover the power of character strengths.
  • Learn how VIA Strengths (Values in Action) support resilience.
  • Explore how strengths can shape self-worth and identity.

Core Content:

  • The VIA Strengths Framework (Peterson & Seligman).
  • Signature strengths vs. learned strengths.
  • Applying strengths in coaching, therapy, and personal development.

 Activities:

  • VIA Strengths Assessment: Identify and reflect on top 5 strengths.
  • Pair Exercise: Strengths spotting in others.
  • Discussion: How do strengths shape self-perception and growth?
